Therapeutic Massage
Many men and women are finding that therapeutic massage is an effective complement to other health care services and seek out therapeutic massage as a means to promote health and enhance their body's own restorative powers.
At Massage2Movement I provide various styles of massage depending on your particular needs. Below is a description of the various massages that are offered at my office:
Relaxation (Swedish) Massage
In this style of massage a lighter touch is often used to promote a sense of ease and calm. The strokes are used to soothe muscles and improve circulation. The therapist uses a combination of long strokes, kneading and friction as well as some gentle movement or rocking. Always a popular massage!
Deep Tissue Massage
In this style of massage deeper pressure is given to bound up muscle tissue. This type of massage is good for athletes or someone with chronic muscle pain. Specific, slow, deep pressure is given with elbows or fist to contracted muscles. This massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue.
Restorative Massage
This is my favorite massage to give. In this style I incorporate the best of relaxation with a modified deep tissue massage as well as movement. Pressure of the strokes depends on the individual client ranging from light to deep strokes. Focus is on restoring balance to areas of the body that are particularly painful or where movement is restricted.

Feldenkrais Method®
The Feldenkrais Method is a unique approach to understanding oneself. The effectiveness of the Feldenkrais Method is in its ability to tap into the nervous system's own innate processes to change and refine functioning.
Through personal experience we adopt patterns of use (physical and psychological) that assure our survival as we develop. However, these patterns become deeply embedded and oftentimes become outmoded or dysfunctional, leaving one to feel discomfort or pain as he/she moves through his/her daily life.
This Method is an educational system that provides one with the tools to free us from habitual patterns and allows for new patterns of thinking, moving and feeling to emerge.
Persons with restricted movement, chronic pain, pyscological and neurological problems can benefit from this work. Athletes and performing artists are also drawn to Feldenkrais as it gives them a greater sense of use and improves the quality of their actions.
There are two ways to learn the Feldenkrais Method. One is Functional Integration (FI) and the other is Awareness Through Movement (ATM). It is through these modalities that one's nervous system is able to self-organize towards more effective and intelligent action.

Functional Integration® (FI)
These are individual lessons where the learning is communicated through slow, gentle touch. Comfortably clothed, you lie or sit on a low padded table.
The practitioner guides you through a series of precise movements that relax tense areas.
The movements alter habitual patterns and provide new information directly to the neuromuscular system.
Awareness Through Movement® (ATM)
In these group classes, the teacher verbally guides you through a sequence of movements in basic positions: sitting or lying on the floor, standing, or sitting in a chair.
The emphasis is on learning which movements work better and noticing the quality of these changes in your body. You learn to relax. You learn to abandon habitual patterns and develop new alternatives.
The ATM movements develop not only awareness but also flexibility and coordination.
